  • 2021 Confucius Academy Spring Debate: the Relationship between “Digital Technologies and Humanities”

    In recent years, the fast-rising wave of digital humanities has become a hot topic in the academic community. Changes in the carrier of documents from paper to silicon have heralded the arrival of the digital age. Digital documents, featured with full-text search, quantitative statistics, spatial analysis, visual analysis of social networks, and data association, lead to the emergence of the discipline of digital humanities. With the rapid iteration of computer network technology and the booming development and broad application of digital technologies, including big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, digital humanities increasingly show flourishing vitality and strong social influence. Meanwhile, controversies about it exist.

  • 2020 Confucius Academy Summer Debate: The World of Zhang Zai

    On August 23, the 1000th anniversary of the birth of Chinese philosopher Zhang Zai, Confucius Academy held a summer debate themed on “the World of Zhang Zai” to commemorate the sage and carry forward the culture of Guanxue (Zhang Zai’s School).

  • Is Academy of Classical Learning Necessary Nowadays? Winter Debate of Confucius Academy Held

    On Jan 24, the "Winter Debate of Confucius Academy" jointly sponsored by International Confucian Association, Guangming Daily and the Cultural Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy was successfully held online. Zhu Hanmin (Dean and professor of Yuelu Academy of Hunan University and Chairman of Chinese Academy Association), Cheng Fangping (professor of School of Education, Renmin University of China and Vice Chairman of Chinese Academy Association) and Xu Yong (professor of Faculty of Education, Beijing Normal University and Vice Chairman of Chinese Academy Association) were invited as distinguished guests. The Debate was hosted by Li Bing (professor of Yuelu Academy of Hunan University and Secretary General of Chinese Academy Association).

  • Experts and Scholars Discussed Chinese Classics and Their Contemporary Value: 2020 Confucius Academy Autumn Debate Held

    On November 5, Confucius Academy Autumn Debate, co-organized by International Confucian Association, Guangming Daily and Cultural Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy invited Liao Mingchun, Professor of Tsinghua University, Li Jinglin, Professor of Beijing Normal University, Ding Ding, Professor of Shandong Normal University and Zhan Haiyun, Professor of Southwest Jiaotong University, as guests to debate on hot topics such as the definition, formation, categories, content, ideas and contemporary value of classics. The event was presided over by Shu Dagang, Professor of Sichuan University.

    On December 3, the 2017 Confucius Academy Winter Debate was held at Confucius Academy. Four scholars from Beijing Normal University, Xiamen University, Sichuan Normal University, and Jiangxi Normal University, unfolded the debate on “Taoist Ideas and Social Life”. ZHAN Shichuang, Dean of Lao Tzu Research Institute, Sichuan University, hosted the debate.

  • 2019 Confucius Academy Summer Debate

    On June 6, 2019, the Confucius Academy Summer Debate jointly hosted by the Cultural Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy, the Guangming Daily and the International Confucian Association took place with the theme focused on “Tianxia天下as a New World System and the Confucian Tradition”. The organizers invited three internationally renowned scholars as debate guests: Professor Zhao Tingyang, the proposer of the Tianxia System theory, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and senior research fellow at the Institute of Philosophy, Professor Wang Rongrong of Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, USA, and Professor Gan Chunsong of the Department of Philosophy at Peking University. Yao Xinzhong, a philosophy professor at Renmin University of China, acted as the academic chair of the debate.
