On April 29, hosted by the Culture Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy and the Museum of Oil Lamps and contracted by the Calligraphy and Paintings Research Institute of Confucius Academy and Chen Lyusheng Art Museum, Xishan Hanji Special Exhibition of “Legend of Lamp -Oil Lamp Painted by Contemporary Artists” kicks off in Guiyang Confucius Academy, lasting for one month and free to visitors.

In the current exhibition, there are nearly 80 pieces of artworks with the subject of oil lamp created by the well-known contemporary calligraphers and painters and over 100 oil lamps, ranging from the Neolithic Age to the 20th century, collected by the Museum of Oil Lamp, vividly telling the story of oil lamps on the basis of art creation and historical relics, uncovering the cultural essence contained in such daily appliance.

It is introduced that CHEN Lyusheng, host of the current exhibition, concurrent President of Chinese Institute of Han Dynasty's Art and the Calligraphy and Paintings Research Institute of Confucius Academy, has collected nearly 4000 oil lamps with constant efforts over the last 4 decades. He has founded the first China oil lamp museum in Yangzhong City, Jiangsu Province in 1998 and the largest theme museum of oil lamp both in terms of quantity and scale across the world in Yajiyuan, at the lakeside of Taihu Lake, Changzhou in 2017. The oil lamps currently exhibited are all the collections of Oil Lamp Museum, while the artworks shown are the special creations subject to oil lamp made by the well-known contemporary calligraphers and painters for the contribution arrangement agreed with President CHEN Lyusheng since 2008. What worth mentioning is that, the traditional Chinese painters are from not only mainland China, but also Taiwan and Hong Kong SAR, presenting the direct line of cultural succession across the strait.
