The Fourth National Academic Forum for Doctoral Students of Philosophy and Ethics of 2019 held in Confucius Academy

On August 10-11, the Fourth National Academic Forum for Doctoral Students of Philosophy and Ethics of 2019 was held in Confucius Academy. More than 80 experts, scholars and doctoral students in the field of philosophy and ethics from universities across the country would conduct a 2-day academic discussion on “Traditional Chinese Ethics and Contemporary Moral Issues”.

The forum is sponsored by China Association for Ethical Studies and Applied Ethics Center of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and organized by Cultural Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy, School of Political Sciences and Public Administration of Southwest University as well as School of Philosophy and Social Development of Guizhou University. It aims at promoting in-depth research and development of philosophy and ethics, improving the academic ability of the doctoral students of philosophy and ethics from universities and research institutes, enhancing their sense of mission and consciousness on studying problems of times, and advancing the academic exchanges among them.

The forum, carefully prepared over half a year, has received 76 theses from more than 40 universities and research institutes including Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Wuhan University, Sichuan University, Xiamen University, Tongji University, Minzu University of China, Nanjing Normal University, Capital Normal University, Lanzhou University, Southwest University and Guizhou University. Besides, chief editors and famous scholars from major journals such as Philosophical Trends, Morality and Civilization as well as Studies in Ethics were invited to review the theses submitted by students, thus greatly improving the quality and level of the forum.

During the two days of the forum, over80 doctoral students and scholars, based on the theme of “Traditional Chinese Ethics and Contemporary Moral Issues”, have carried out discussions anad research on Chinese and Western philosophy and ethics as well as the contemporary value and application of philosophy and ethics in the form of panel discussions, expert reviews, academic salons and award ceremony of doctoral theses.

In a total, the forum awarded 46 theses, among which five for the first prizes, 10 for the second prizes, 20 for the third prizes and 11 for excellence prizes. At the award ceremony, the sponsors and organizers jointly gave the prizes to the award-winning students.

In addition, during the activity of Traditional Ethics and Contemporary Morals themed on “Light in Heart”, experts, scholars and doctoral students visited Guizhou Moral Lecture Hall, Yang Ming Lecture Hall, Chinese Traditional Ethics and Cultural Research Institute of Southwest University (Confucius Academy). Through the field study, they experienced the development of traditional ethics in the contemporary era.
