On September 12, 2019, “Wang Yangming International Caricatures” opened in Alcala, Spain.
Before the opening ceremony, José Vicente Saz, President of Alcala University, met with Suo Xiaoxia, Director of Guiyang Confucius Academy Culture Communication Center, and the delegation, in the school office, and introduced the historical evolution, major departments and characteristics of University of Alcala. Afterwards, Palacios, Mayor of Alcala, met with Suo Xiaoxia and the delegation at the municipal hall and introduced Alcala’s long history, cultural celebrities and cultural activities.
The attendees of the opening ceremony include Palacios, Mayor of Alcala, José Vicente Saz, President of Alcala University, Maria Theresa del Val, Director of the Foundation, Tomas Gallego Izquierdo, Academic Director, and June, Director of Comics Institute.
More than 100 people, including Suo Xiaoxia, Director of Guiyang Confucius Academy Culture Communication Center, Wang Liuyi, Vice President of Copyright Society of China, Xiao Libin, Deputy Director of Guiyang Confucius Academy Culture Communication Center, Zhai Jia, Deputy Director of Guiyang Confucius Academy Culture Communication Center Office, Liu Xin, Director of International Department of International Multimedia Culture Association, Spanish and Chinese artists, experts and scholars, professors, media and student representatives, attended the opening ceremony.
José Vicente Saz, President of Alcala University, delivered a speech at the beginning. He believed that the exhibition presented Wang Yangming, a famous philosopher, ideologist, educator and representative of Confucianism in Chinese history, to Spanish audience and students through a vivid and interesting form of caricature, so the audience in Spain and Latin American countries could know and understand Chinese thoughts, thus leading to better cooperation and exchange of Chinese and Western cultures.
Maria Theresa del Val, Director of the Foundation, pointed out in her speech that following the successful holding of the “Cervantes and Don Quixote International Caricatures” on May 25, 2019 in the Confucius Academy in Guiyang, China, the excellent development of the “Wang Yangming International Caricatures” in Alcala has brought about cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. This shows a positive momentum. They will spare no effort to support Spain and China to hold such cultural and artistic activities.
In her speech, Suo Xiaoxia, Director of Guiyang Confucius Academy Culture Communication Center, pointed out that Wang Yangming and Don Quixote are historical and cultural figures of the same era. For hundreds of years, their literary works and ideological theories have been the cultural symbols of their own nations and countries, and the spiritual wealth of the entire human civilization. As a high-end platform for inheriting and promoting the excellent traditional Chinese culture, Guiyang Confucius Academy cooperated with University of Alcala, Europe’s oldest institution for the communication of education and knowledge. This year, we successfully held international comic-cons of cultural celebrities from both countries in Guiyang and Alcala respectively, taking a gratifying first step for the long-term cooperation and exchange between University of Alcala and Guiyang Confucius Academy. She said that both institutions would make continuous efforts to achieve more cooperation and exchanges, and more friends from all walks of life in Spain would be welcome to visit the wonderful Guizhou and sunny Guiyang.
In his final speech, Palacios, Mayor of Alcala, said that Spain attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with Chinese culture and economy and was willing to strengthen and consolidate the friendship of both countries through art – the optimal way of communication. He sincerely wished the exhibition a complete success and announced the opening of Wang Yangming International Caricatures.
Thise exhibition in Alcala, Spain, spread the international influence of traditional Chinese traditional culture, and presented the historical development process of international comics and the cultural similarities and differences between China and Spain in the exchange and mutual learning, for the study and appreciation on the aesthetic similarities and differences imposed by the cultural similarities and differences.
