On October 11, the International Symposium on Sino-Korean Language & Literature was jointly held by Cultural Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy and Chonbuk National University. More than 40 experts and scholars from China and South Korea gathered at Guiyang Confucius Academy to have academic exchanges on the research of both countries’ language and literature.
Professor Xiao Libin, Deputy Director of Guiyang Confucius Academy, and Cui Nangu， Dean of College of Liberal Arts of Chonbuk National University delivered speeches respectively at the opening ceremony, which was hosted by Long Hua, Director of the Research Department of the Culture Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy.
The two-day forum would mainly have keynote speeches and group discussions such as the comparative study of Chinese and Korean literature, the collation of Chinese books and the dissemination of Chinese classics in South Korea, thus promoting the development of research on language and literature as well as academic and cultural exchanges of the two countries.
During the Symposium, Cui Rongche, Professor of Korea University, talked about the dissemination of Chinese Classics, especially of the literatures. He said that a great number of Korean people like reading Chinese literature, such as poems written by Li Bai and Du Fu, as well as China’s four great classic novels, which are known as the four masterpieces in South Korea. “For example,” he mentioned, “Korean people would study the values of Zhong (loyalty) and Xiao (filial piety) as well as Chinese characters by reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms.”
As a high-end platform of cultural and academic exchange and the research base of traditional customs of Guiyang Province, Guiyang Confucius Academy has signed cooperation agreements with more than 30 universities and research institutions at home and abroad, and has regularly held high-level academic conferences including four seasons debates to create active academic atmosphere. Besides, the Academy has gradually established four platforms, including the Institute for Advanced Study, Research Institute of “Yangming Philosophy and Contemporary Social Psychology”, platform for releasing information on bidding and achievements of high-level projects, as well as platform for academic interconnection, with the aim of gathering academic experts at home and abroad to carry out various kinds of research and training activities and thus producing abundant achievements on research of excellent traditional Chinese culture.
