2021-02-18

Faced with complex disciplines, changing social ideology, and diversified values, Confucius Academy has always adhered to the idea of openness, strengthened exchanges with foreign countries, and concentrated resources of experts, exerting its efforts in academic research and training that are deeply rooted in the era and require a realistic and innovative approach.

In 2020, Guiyang Confucius Academy stuck to innovating its work in academic research and training, thus made new achievements in an online and offline way, including signing contracts of academic visits with 30 research and training institutions at home and abroad, increasing applications of projects of Chinese studies, holding online and offline high-level academic conferences and forums as well as conducting in-depth research on distinctive local culture.

Bringing renowned experts together for academic exchanges

In 2020, despite the impact of the epidemic, Guiyang Confucius Academy enhanced its cooperation with foreign countries, and steadily promoted its work in academic visits, laying a solid foundation for building a new domestic first-class highland of researches, communication, and dissemination of Chinese traditions. It has signed contracts with 30 well-known domestic and foreign universities, scientific research institutions, academic organizations, and other research and training institutions.

Upholding the principle of “research and training nurturing education,” it recommended its previous visiting scholars to deliver public lectures on the traditional culture at its halls or in other universities, scientific research institutions, enterprises, and public institutions, and to attend cultural activities, providing strong academic support in education and promotion of culture.

Guiyang Confucius Academy accelerated its resumption of work and production in front of the predicament of “stagnation” and “postponement” in the first half of 2020. In the second half, it hosted academic conferences, including the seminar under the theme of “The Historical Development and Contemporary Construction of Chinese Marxist Philosophy” and 2020 Annual Meeting of China Society of History of Marxist Philosophy, the 1st National Philosophy Forum & the 31st Philosophy Conference of National Social Science Circle, Annual Conference of 2020 Academic Committee of Confucius Academy, and Poverty Elimination and a Moderately Prosperous Society: the 2nd “New Era, She Power” Women’s Forum, attracting more than 500 experts and scholars to participate in total.

Opening the Era of Cloud Academic Education and Training

This year, against the background of everything available in “the cloud,” Guiyang Confucius Academy kept abreast of the times, innovating a new model of academic research and taking advantage of online platforms to conduct online academic seminars, consequently opening its era of cloud academic research and training.

In April 2020, Guiyang Confucius Academy Spring Debate was held online via video conferencing for the first time. Themed with “Traditional Chinese Medicine and Harmony between Man and Nature,” it invited nationally known experts of traditional Chinese medicine and the history of Chinese philosophy to have debates focusing on the contribution of traditional Chinese medicine in the battle against COVID-19, the relationship between traditional Chinese medicine and traditional culture, and how traditional medicine and modern medicine complement each other and advance together, which brought a new experience to the audience. Three “cloud” debates have been held, and the winter debate is also under preparation.

Academic research and training need to be visionary yet down-to-earth. As a high-end exchange platform for academic research and training in Guizhou, Guiyang Confucius Academy prioritizes the in-depth exploration, extensive research, and wide spread of Guizhou's distinctive local culture.

In 2020, to support studies of distinctive local culture in Guizhou, Guiyang Confucius Academy carried out nine commissioned research projects of “Research and Training Base of Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture of Confucius Academy” in Huaxi District, Kaiyang County, Xiuwen County, Meitan County, Zhenyuan County, Xixiu District, Libo County, Tongren University, and Kaili University, which were welcomed by local party committees, governments, and universities. The work is currently progressing smoothly and is expected to be completed in 2021.
