Publication of Chinese Sages in the Eyes of the World


  During the past five years, Guiyang Confucius Academy has successfully held Confucius Caricatures International ExhibitionWang Yangming Caricatures International Exhibition and Lao Zi Caricatures International Exhibition in 2015, 2017 and 2020 respectively, and selected excellent works from the three exhibitions to make and publish a caricature series entitled Chinese Sages in the Eyes of the World with three albums featuring Laozi, Wang Yangming and Confucius.

  The selected works with Laozi, Confucius and Wang Yangming as figures, created by caricaturist from more than 50 countries and regions in the world, are international, various and unique. With this set of albums, you can discover the various styles, characteristics and beauty of Chinese sages under the pens of artists from all over the world. The ancient Chinese sages vividly portrayed in the sketches, oil paintings, watercolor paintings, paper cuttings, wood carvings and ink paintings by artists are thought-provoking. By means of realism, freehand brushwork, abstraction and surrealism, artists broken barriers of time and space and combined ancient Chinese sages with contemporary world to create works full of innovation and imagination, broadening audience’s vision and winning praise and admiration from them.

  In foreign countries, caricaturists usually depict historical and cultural celebrities, politicians as well as film, television and sports stars by means of exaggeration, abstraction, surrealism, etc. Each caricature of this set for the three sages is a profile and a kind of understanding of them, which actually shows the diversity and richness as well as the greatness and subtlety of the ancient Chinese philosophy represented by their thoughts. In these albums, we can even see their images with “global significance”.

  This set of albums, exquisitely printed and unique in design, is packed in a set of three volumes in a format of 32mo. As you read from the front page, you will see hundreds of works, and as you read from the back page, you will see nearly 100 famous quotations both in Chinese and English.
