First Academic Workshop of Guiyang Confucius Academy in 2021 Successfully Held

  From September 24th to 26th, the First Academic Workshop in 2021, co-organized by the Institute for Advanced Study of Cultural Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy and the School of Philosophy and Social Development of Guizhou University, was successfully held. During the workshop themed with “Mentality and Cognition: Cross-Cultural and Diversified Perspectives,” more than 30 experts and scholars from higher education institutions nationwide participated in through online and offline channels and gave lectures with positive results achieved.

  Scholars conducted discussions on mentality and cognition from fields of psychology, cognitive science, and artificial intelligence. For discussions on embodied cognition, Professor Ye Haosheng from Guangzhou University introduced arguments about the body in classical Chinese philosophy from the perspective of psychology. Professor Li Hengwei from Zhejiang University summarized the contemporary value of Wang Yangming’s Theory from outcomes of modern researches on consciousness. Professor Zhang Yongjun, Professor Su Lingyin, Professor Zhu Jing, and Professor Zhou Changle explored topics of artificial intelligence, visual recognition, and machine consciousness. Professor Cai Hengjin from Wuhan University elaborated on the concept of cognitive attractor by combining the well-known scholar in Chinese studies Mou Zongsan’s concept of “attractor” and cognitive science together. Professor Jiang Ke from Wenzhou Medical University talked about the differences between the philosophy of Zhuangzi and contemporary research on consciousness as well as possibilities of news directions of study on psychology and cognitive science with the support of Zhuangzi’s philosophy. Other participating scholars also had wonderful discussions on characterization and species.

  This event is a feast to exchange ideas and insights. Experts from different disciplines, fields, and countries conducted in-depth discussions and shared opinions on the dialectical thinking of the new form of human civilization developed by science and technology and traditional culture, which provided new methods, theories, and channels for the innovative inheritance of traditional Chinese culture and comprehension of future development of emerging technologies. The experts and scholars present at the event said that they benefited greatly from these presentations and had a deeper understanding of and thoughts about relevant topics and problems.
