On October 26th, the Exhibition of Chinese Paintings from Guizhou Province of Xishan Hanji themed with “Take a Long-term and Broad Vision as We Go Along” opened at Yiwen Hall of Guiyang Confucius Academy, with about 30 artists from Guizhou and representatives of organizers attending the opening ceremony.
In the exhibition jointly organized by the Institute of Culture and History of Guizhou Province, the Cultural Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy, the Chinese Painting Institute of Guizhou Province, and Guizhou Art Academy (Guizhou Art Museum), 133 works of renowned painters of traditional Chinese paintings from Guizhou, including Wang Zhenzhong, Chen Jialin, Chen Hongwei and Wang Zhongcai are exhibited. On the same day, the Cultural Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy signed a contract with the Chinese Painting Institute of Guizhou Province and held a ceremony to inaugurate its residence to the International Institute for Chinese Culture.
It is learned that Confucius Academy has prepared for the exhibition with the Institute of Culture and History of Guizhou Province and the Chinese Painting Institute of Guizhou Province for several months. The exhibited works are from painters of the old generation who are over 80 years old and renowned inside and outside the province, as well as young painters who are in their prime; they cover a wide variety of topics, such as the impregnable passes, Dong villages, Miao townships, mountains and rivers, villagers and their friendship, red plums, history of the last century, radical changes in the mountain area, and peace and prosperity.
Gu Jiu, a renowned scholar and former Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Guizhou Provincial People’s Congress, said that Guiyang Confucius Academy is an important platform to promote excellent traditional culture, and Chinese painting is one of the treasures of traditional culture, so their natural combination is achieved without effort. He expressed the hope that in the future, painters would exchange ideas to bring Chinese aesthetics to the whole world and promote knowledge of paintings among children to improve their aesthetic awareness.
“It was a pleasure to visit the exhibition and to meet many old friends. I have visited half of the exhibition space, and the exhibition is of high quality. The paintings are fabulous and have their special lingering appeal.” Wang Zhenzhong, Professor of Guizhou University and Honorary Director of the Chinese Painting Institute of Guizhou Province, said Chinese paintings focus on the lingering appeal (yunwei). The painting would be vulgar without lingering appeal. He hoped that with the support of Confucius Academy, the Chinese Painting Institute of Guizhou Province would develop better.
“2021 marks the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. To celebrate it, Confucius Academy has launched a series of events, and the Exhibition of Chinese Paintings from Guizhou Province themed with ‘Take a Long-term and Broad Vision as We Go Along’ is one of the major events.” Suo Xiaoxia, Director and Party Secretary of the Cultural Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy noted that, the painters and calligraphers use Chinese paintings to record the scenery and express their emotions. Their works not only portray the magnificent rivers and mountains and beautiful scenery of Guizhou, but also reflect the hardships and struggles of Chinese people who are led by CPC in pioneer work to achieve the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation.
The exhibition will last until November 26th.
