On March 5, the Insects Awaken Day, the collective wedding of “carrying forward the new trend of the times and advocating new-style weddings” jointly sponsored by Guiyang Women’s Federation, Cultural Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy and Guiyang Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League was held in Guiyang Confucius Academy. Dressed in Han Chinese Clothing and following the traditional ancient etiquette, the 20 new couples tied the knot and initiated a new stage of their lives hand in hand, witnessed by their relatives and friends.
Chinese weddings have a long history. From the Han and Tang Dynasties to the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, each historical dynasty has its own beauty in style and etiquette. As the spiritual highland and landmark cultural calling card of Guizhou Province, Confucius Academy incorporated its “Four Etiquettes” into Chinese wedding and carefully presented a wedding ceremony combining charm of both Tang Dynasty and modern times, bringing a unique and precious memory for the newly-wed couples.
A wedding implying a harmonious union lasting a hundred years has centuries of cultural deposits accumulated underneath. Before the ceremony, Gong Dequan, Director of the Development Planning Department and Dean of the School of Sociology, Guizhou Minzu University explained the beauty of Chinese wedding culture. He said that the current Chinese society is in a multi-space-time state of traditional, modern and post-modern times, which urgently requires us to restore and awaken the ceremony sense and spirituality of the wedding itself, calls for the return of the substantial meaning of “rite” and at the same time infiltrates the consciousness of modern civilization. The modernistic value of this Chinese wedding lies in the civilized and elegant traditional marriage custom, the improvement of the ethical ability of contemporary people and the construction of a marriage and family keeping up with the times.
The serial activities of “transforming social traditions and advocating new-style weddings” in Gui’an will last until January 2023. Guided by the Publicity Department of the CPC Guiyang Municipal Committee and Guiyang Municipal Office of the Spiritual Civilization Construction Steering Committee, and hosted by Guiyang Women’s Federation, Cultural Communication Center of Guiyang Confucius Academy and Guiyang Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, a series of “1 plus 10” activities(“1” indicates the demonstration ceremony today and “10” indicates the 10 themed wedding activities in different forms) will be carried out successively with the theme of “advocating new-style weddings”, so as to lead a good fashion full of righteousness and goodness in the whole society, and gather the majestic power to “strengthen the development of the provincial capital”.
